Watertown High School recently celebrated Karla Mullen as the 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient during its annual Homecoming festivities. The event, held last Friday, included a luncheon prepared by the school's culinary students, a pep rally, and a parade down Main Street. Mrs. Mullen was also recognized during halftime at the Varsity Football game at Landsverk Field.

Watertown seeks new reading tutor to enhance student literacy programs
The Watertown Unified School District continues to support its students with the assistance of Reading Corps, an AmeriCorps tutoring program. Since its inception in Wisconsin in 2015, Reading Corps has reached over 18,000 students across various communities. In the 2023-24 school year alone, AmeriCorps members served as Reading Tutors for 113 students in Watertown.

It’s Homecoming Week in Watertown, and the 2024 Watertown High School (WHS) Homecoming Court has been announced. Seniors on the Homecoming Court include Marissa Bischoff, Megan Doherty, Evelyn Rhodes, Ryanna Bilgrien, Ava Otto, Abby Oldenhoff, Jolee Glascock, Kaitlyn Narkis, Tucker Peirick, Brody Wood, Brett Strupp, Damien Ortega, Xavier Quintero, Cameron Kranz, Brayden Schmidt, Julian Byrne, and Drew Kaufmann. Alison Busler was not pictured.

WUSD hosts mental wellness presentation on Wednesday
The community is invited to attend a special presentation and "meet & greet" this Wednesday at 6 p.m. with Kenda Roman, WUSD's new Mental Health Coordinator. The primary topic of discussion will be "Empowering Parents Navigating Mental Health Strategies and Resources." The event will take place in the Community Room of the Watertown Public Library. The Watertown Unified School District (WUSD) hosted a special event on Tuesday at Watertown High School to welcome staff members back after summer break and to celebrate the start of the 2024-25 school year. The event featured welcoming remarks by Watertown Public Library Director Peg Checkai, School Board Vice-President David Schroeder, Human Resources Director Margaret Brady, and Superintendent Dr. Jarred Burke. Employees were recognized for their years of service to the WUSD.

Casey Rusch-Weiland named principal at Schurz Elementary School
The WUSD has announced the appointment of Casey Rusch-Weiland as the new Principal of Schurz Elementary School. With 14 years in education, Rusch-Weiland joined the WUSD three years ago as the RMS Dean of Students, following Mike Cunningham, who is now the RMS Associate Principal. Before her tenure at WUSD, she spent a decade as a Special Education instructor in the School District of Milton.
