Watertown Unified School District Superintendent Jarred Burke (2023) | Watertown Unified School District
The Watertown Unified School District (WUSD) is set to host a town hall meeting on January 20 at 6 p.m. at the Watertown Public Library. The event, part of the "Briefings" series with Superintendent Dr. Jarred Burke, will address issues currently facing the district, including an upcoming school referendum scheduled for April 1, 2025.
Dr. Burke explained that the need for this referendum arises from increasing costs of goods and services essential for daily operations. He noted that the district's budget has been strained by insufficient state funding over the past decade. "The district continues to strive toward a balanced budget, and has deferred maintenance, ongoing staff development, and needed advancement and changes in curriculum," said Dr. Burke.
If voters approve the referendum, WUSD plans to allocate funds to enhance school safety, retain and attract talented staff, maintain high-quality programs and services, and broaden learning opportunities for students.
Other topics on the agenda for next Monday's meeting include discussions on the district's new Strategic Plan, long-term facilities planning, partnerships with local businesses and civic groups, as well as district achievements. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.
