Phoenix Middle School recently achieved a commendable second-place finish at the annual Middle School Academic Bowl held on March 14, 2025. The event featured teams from five districts competing in various subjects, including math, science, language arts, and social studies. Phoenix students demonstrated their skills and knowledge, with several earning top individual honors.
In the Current Events competition, Phoenix teams excelled by securing both first and second place ribbons. The school celebrated its scholars for their dedication and teamwork throughout the event.
The following students received individual accolades: Hazel Schoofs Weisensel (6th grade) took first place in English Language Arts; Lane Whalen (6th grade), Riley Wachtveitl (7th grade), and Reilly Turner (8th grade) all secured first place in Science. Zita Zillmer (8th grade) earned second place in Language Arts, while Charlotte Malloy (8th grade) tied for second place in Math.
Third-place honors went to James Halvorson (6th grade) in Math, Jackson Wiliear (6th grade) tied in Social Studies, Jianni Manriquez (7th grade) also in Social Studies, and Celeste Esquivel Gama (8th grade) who tied in Math.
Additionally, Phoenix's Current Events teams were recognized for their outstanding performance. Team 1 members Hazel Schoofs-Weisensel, Grace Johnson, Ross Mazza, Riley Wachtveitl, and Lucien Echeverria received first-place ribbons. Team 2 members Caleb Alter, Charlotte Malloy, Jianni Manriquez, Lane Whalen, and Celeste Esquivel Gama earned second-place ribbons out of a total of 15 teams.
"Congrats to all our scholars for their hard work," expressed the school as they acknowledged the participants' academic excellence.
