The Watertown community is set to vote on a referendum concerning the Watertown Unified School District (WUSD) on April 1. The referendum seeks approval to increase the state-imposed revenue limit by $7 million. If passed, this funding will be allocated to offset budget deficits, ensuring the continuation of high-quality instruction and programming while also prioritizing school safety.

The district faces financial challenges due to rising costs and limited state funding. Notably, the $7 million request is not intended for new spending or construction projects. The previous WUSD operating referendum was approved in 2018 and expired in 2023. However, due to effective planning and fiscal management, some funds from that referendum have been extended through the current school year.

Further details about the referendum can be found at https://www.watertown.k12.wi.us/page/spring-referendum. Community members are encouraged to participate in the voting process on April 1.
