The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is set to begin a resurfacing and improvement project on Highway 50 between Lake Lawn Drive and WIS 67 starting Tuesday, September 2, 2025. The entire section will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project, with emergency vehicles allowed access.
According to officials, "Through traffic means if a person drives from the beginning to the end without stopping, they do NOT belong within the construction zone and may be ticketed."
Drivers who need to reach businesses within the work zone are permitted entry. "If a person is going to any business within the work zone, they are allowed to drive into the work zone. The state would prefer drivers find alternate routes to the businesses if possible, but it is not illegal," according to information released about the closure.
The project includes resurfacing 3.7 miles of roadway, upgrading traffic signals and pedestrian accommodations, storm sewer repairs and cleaning, installation of new guardrails, and updated signage. Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses throughout construction.
A detour will direct motorists via WIS 67 and I-43 while Highway 50 remains closed between Lake Lawn Drive and WIS 67. The project is expected to conclude by mid-fall 2025 depending on weather conditions.
The Town of Delavan Police Department will monitor compliance with these restrictions. "The Town of Delavan Police Department will be monitoring this closure. Drivers attempting to bypass the closure without accessing local businesses or residences will be subject to enforcement action. Please respect the closure for everyone’s safety."
