The Whitewater Water Utility has announced that it will carry out its semi-annual water main and fire hydrant flushing from Monday, October 20 through Friday, October 31, 2025. This routine maintenance aims to test fire hydrants for proper pressure and flow, verify the correct operation of hydrants and valves, and improve water quality by removing sediment from the mains.

Residents are advised that temporary water discoloration may occur during or after the flushing process. In such cases, they should run a cold-water tap at the lowest point in their home or use an outdoor spigot for several minutes until the water clears. This process can be repeated as needed after a short pause.

To avoid laundry staining, residents are encouraged not to wash white or light-colored clothes during flushing hours or until their water is clear. Limiting overall water use until crews have finished in specific areas is also recommended.

If unexpected system repairs become necessary, the flushing program may extend into the following week.

“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this necessary maintenance work,” said Josh Hyndman, Superintendent of Water Utility.
