The school district has announced the introduction of a new program called Character Strong in its elementary schools this year. This initiative aims to equip students with skills necessary for success both academically and in life.

According to the announcement, "We are thankful to have you be a part of our school community! The world is changing quickly and we want to do everything we can to help students be successful in school and life." The program emphasizes creating safe and inclusive learning environments where students feel connected with teachers and peers.

Character Strong is described as more than just a curriculum. It seeks to foster a partnership between schools and families, aiming to make students feel they belong while learning valuable skills. The program's objectives focus on three main areas: Be Kind, Be Strong, and Be Well.

"Be Kind" focuses on social skills such as listening, friendship, conflict resolution, and leadership, taught alongside empathy, respect, and cooperation. "Be Strong" targets organizational skills like focus and goal setting, taught with responsibility, courage, and perseverance. Lastly, "Be Well" helps students manage emotions and stress through gratitude, honesty, and creativity.

Families will receive monthly updates on the skills being taught. These communications will include suggestions for skill-building activities at home as well as discussion prompts.

The statement encourages parents interested in learning more about Character Strong to reach out to their child's teacher or principal.

"We are excited to tell you that we will be using a new program in our Elementary Schools called Character Strong this year," the announcement reiterated. "This program teaches skills that will help students be successful in school and in life."
