The WUSD has announced the appointment of Casey Rusch-Weiland as the new Principal of Schurz Elementary School. With 14 years in education, Rusch-Weiland joined the WUSD three years ago as the RMS Dean of Students, following Mike Cunningham, who is now the RMS Associate Principal. Before her tenure at WUSD, she spent a decade as a Special Education instructor in the School District of Milton.

Rusch-Weiland holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Cardinal Stritch University. This summer, she completed her Director of Special Education licensure through Viterbo University.

Throughout her career, Rusch-Weiland has emphasized creating supportive and inclusive environments for students. “One of my core beliefs is that collaboration between families, educators, and the broader community is essential for student success,” she said. “I am committed to ensuring that Schurz Elementary School continues to be a place where students feel safe, inspired, and motivated to achieve their highest potential.”

Outside work, Rusch-Weiland enjoys spending time with her husband and their 9-year-old daughter. “We love playing with our two energetic dogs, swimming, and sharing our love for reading,” she noted. She also expressed her enthusiasm for Wisconsin sports teams: "I’m a proud Wisconsin sports fan, so I cheer passionately for the Brewers, Packers, Bucks, and Badgers!”

“I am excited to work with our team at Schurz to build relationships with our students and their parents,” Rusch-Weiland added. “Together we will continue to create positive and enriching school experiences for our students - I am confident we will make this school year a fantastic one for everyone at Schurz Elementary School.”
