The Watertown Unified School District’s Strategic Planning Workgroup concluded its fourth and final meeting on July 23, marking the completion of its efforts toward developing the district’s next strategic plan.

During the meeting, participants discussed the district’s mission, vision, and core values. They engaged in an activity focused on strategic priorities and goals, achieving consensus on these items to be included in the final version of the strategic plan.

“We would like to thank our Strategic Planning Workgroup for their outstanding effort, dedication, and thoughtful input over the past several months,” said Superintendent Dr. Jarred Burke. “Through this process, we have been able to gain insights from all corners of our community. This will allow us to create a strategic plan that reflects our community’s core values and drives our district forward in a meaningful way.”

The strategic planning process aims to outline a path to sustainability and growth for WUSD in the coming years. The workgroup has concentrated on key areas such as student performance and growth, educator quality, community engagement, and facilities and operations.

The process began this past spring with focus groups involving district leaders. Community and staff engagement sessions were also held to gather further thoughts on the district's future direction. Dr. Lori Mueller of the Donovan Group facilitated the entire strategic planning process.

“Our shared commitment to excellence ensures we will continue to build on our rich traditions while embracing the future with confidence and creativity,” said Dr. Burke. “Together, we are shaping a bright future for our district and community, rooted in tradition, fueled by innovation, and driven by transformation.”

District leaders and the Donovan Group team will now compile insights from workgroup meetings into a comprehensive strategic plan for WUSD. The plan will be available for community review in the coming weeks before being formally presented to the Board of Education for review and approval.
