Walworth County Update | Walworth County

What’s happening in #WalCo this week? Holiday office hours, a Special County Board Meeting & more.

Holiday Office Closures

Please note that Walworth County business offices will be closed on Friday, December 23, and Monday, December 26, for the holidays. Offices will resume normal business operations on Tuesday, December 27. Happy holidays!

Special County Board Meeting

On Tuesday, December 27, at 10:30 a.m., the Walworth County Board of Supervisors will hold a Special County Board meeting to vote on Resolution No. 99B-12/22 – Granting a Leave of Absence for David Gerber to Serve as Sheriff.

This resolution grants Sheriff-elect David Gerber a leave of absence from his Civil Service position as Captain to serve as Sheriff. Granting this leave of absence is required by County Ordinance Sec. 15-191. This same action was taken in January 2020 when Gerber was appointed Undersheriff.

The Special County Board meeting will be held in the County Board Room at Government Center, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn. The meeting agenda, packet, and livestream can be accessed at https://www.co.walworth.wi.us/Calendar.aspx?EID=1184. Individuals wishing to provide public comments may do so in person or remotely by phone. To comment by phone, contact the County Administrator’s Office at (262) 741-4357 on the day of the meeting to obtain instructions.

Holiday Care Highlights

The season was made brighter for 335 families—a little over 650 children—who received gifts through Walworth County’s annual Holiday Care program. Holiday Care provides gifts and food gift cards for children whose families receive assistance through Health and Human Services programs, including Badger Care, WIC, and FoodShare.

Everything is generously donated by local churches, individuals, organizations, and businesses. The donations include hundreds of toys and board games, plus bicycles, arts and crafts supplies, stockings stuffed with goodies, and clothing. Additionally, about 200 seniors will receive $25 food gift cards from Piggly Wiggly.

Thank you to the individuals, organizations, and businesses that donated. And a huge shout to the many volunteers who help organize and distribute the gifts. Your support and generosity are humbling.

Lakeland School Students Hit a High Note

Lakeland School students put on their annual Holiday Show for friends and family last Friday, performing such classics as “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Carol of the Bells.” Congratulations to the students on such a wonderful show—your hours of practice and dedication showed in your performance. Kudos to the teachers and staff who put so much energy and love into the students’ success.

Job of the Week: Deputy Sheriff - Patrol

The Walworth County Sheriff's Office is looking for candidates like you to join our dedicated team of law enforcement professionals that pledge to preserve and enhance the quality of life within the community through efficient, effective, and professional law enforcement services.  Although it is beneficial for us to hire candidates with prior law enforcement experience, we are always willing to hire good candidates entering the field and put them through Wisconsin Law Enforcement Academy.   After field training, deputies with the Walworth County Sheriff's Office are assigned to one of three 8.25 hour shifts within the Patrol Division on a rotating schedule working 5 days on/2 days off, 5 days on/3 days off to provide 24-hour per day, 7-day per week service.  The Sheriff's Office offers a robust training program with lots of opportunities for collateral duties such as Substation assignment with deputy assigned take home squads, SWAT, Dive Team, Crowd Control, Honor Guard, FTO, etc.
