Concerto competition names Zane Richard as winner

The 2025 Concerto Competition took place on February 11th, featuring performances from five contestants in voice, piano, woodwind, and string concertos. The event was adjudicated by Dr. Richard Hynson.

Zane Richard emerged as the winner with his performance of the first movement from Bach's Keyboard Concerto in D minor, accompanied by Jodi Herbert. Richard is a Music Major focusing on Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy. His victory earned him a $100 cash prize.

Charis Dwire was named runner-up for her rendition of Barber's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 14, Mvt. 1, accompanied by Abigail Boorujy. Dwire is also a Music Major with concentrations in Arranging and Composing and String Pedagogy. She received a $25 cash prize for her performance.

Dr. Hynson praised the participants after the competition: “All the young musicians brought commitment and musical excellence and an authenticity of spirit that informed their performances. Bravo!”

Dr. Hynson serves as the Music Director of the Kettle Moraine Symphony and has been recognized with numerous awards for choral and orchestral conducting, including the American Prize in Choral Conducting – Community Choral Division.
