Eighth-grader Naomi has earned a place in the State Spelling Bee following her performance at the regional competition held at Delavan-Darien High School on February 5.

The spelling bee started with 29 participants and a demanding list of words. After a practice round, five official rounds narrowed down the competitors, with most being eliminated early. Naomi successfully spelled challenging words such as morose, cacophonous, pedigree, inclement, and barista. Her victory was secured by correctly spelling her final word—goliath.

Naomi will compete in the State Bee on Saturday, March 29, in Madison. This marks her second time at the state level after previously competing as a sixth grader. "Congratulations to Naomi on this outstanding achievement," stated an announcement from Lake Geneva Joint #1 District. "Best of luck at State!"
