This semester, Timo DeLeon delivered his Senior Piano Recital at Burckart Hall, performing for an audience that included students, teachers, and relatives. The recital showcased DeLeon's skills and classical repertoire gained during his studies as a music major in Maranatha’s Music Department.
“Timo played with wonderful musicality and sensitivity,” said MBU music professor Ruth Brown. “He showed great commitment to this recital and his hard work showed. Congrats to Timo and his excellent teacher, June Brus!”
The performance was conducted under the guidance of June Brus as part of the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music with concentrations in Composing and Arranging and Church Music. Post-graduation, DeLeon plans to pursue full-time ministry using his musical talents.
DeLeon's program included "Élégie, Op. 3, No. 1" by Sergei Rachmaninoff, which begins with a somber theme evolving into a lyrical melody evoking feelings of longing and nostalgia. The piece fluctuates between sorrowful reflections and joyful memories.
Another piece performed was "Scaramouche, Op. 165b, No. III Brazileira" by Darius Milhaud. Influenced by Brazilian culture, it features lively rhythms that evoke celebration spirit. DeLeon performed this piano duo with Joseph Rincon.
Lastly, he played "How Great Thou Art," arranged by Dan Forrest. This arrangement reflects spiritual truth through music with its meditative opening setting the tone for worship and praise to God.
