During a recent visit to Maranatha Baptist University, alumnus Micah Gillespie shared insights from his time at the university and discussed his current work in ministry. Gillespie, who graduated in 2021 with a music degree concentrating in Piano Pedagogy and Church Music, was actively involved in five performing ensembles at MBU. This involvement allowed him to participate in nineteen tours with groups such as the Madrigal Choir and Symphonic Band.

Currently, Gillespie travels with the Southland Ministry Team, visiting churches and schools during the academic year and serving at Southland Christian Camp over the summer. His roles include composing, arranging music, teaching as needed, playing piano for chapel services, lifeguarding, and working as a barista.

Reflecting on his education at MBU, Gillespie emphasized the importance of skills like time management and hands-on tour experience. He believes these experiences equipped him for his diverse roles on the ministry team.

Gillespie advises music majors to persevere through challenging times. “Even after you graduate, there are days you get overwhelmed by everything,” he said. He also encourages students to seize every opportunity available during their studies.

Gillespie resides in Ringgold, Louisiana with his wife Emaley when not traveling. He enjoys affogatos, history, reading, music-related activities, spending time with friends and family, and exploring coffee shops. His primary instruments are piano, violin, euphonium, and percussion.
