The City of Elkhorn’s Department of Public Works has announced the schedule for its Fall Brush Collection Program. The collection is set for October, with pickup dates based on residents’ locations in relation to Wisconsin Street.
Residents living east of Wisconsin Street will have their brush collected on October 7 and October 21, while those west of Wisconsin Street are scheduled for October 14 and October 28. Department personnel will collect brush from Tuesday through Friday during each designated week. They will make one pass through each route per scheduled week.
“All brush must be placed on the terrace by 7 a.m. on Tuesday of your brush collection week, but no earlier than the Saturday before your brush collection week,” according to city guidelines. Residents are asked not to place additional brush at the curb after DPW personnel have passed their residence.
Guidelines specify that vines, rakings, or roots should not be brought to the city’s compost site. Leaves should not be mixed with brush, and all cut ends must face in the direction of traffic. Each piece of brush must not exceed 12 feet in length or 9 inches in diameter.
DPW staff will only collect property-disposed brush within the time allotted and may complete routes before Friday if possible. Maximum chipping time is limited to ten minutes per property.
Residents are also reminded that parked cars should not block access to brush piles. If tree work is performed by a contractor, it is the contractor’s responsibility to remove all debris from the site; DPW staff will not chip whole trees or trunks.
For those needing disposal outside of scheduled collections, there is an option to drop off brush at the city’s compost site next to the DPW garage at 401 East Centralia Street at Getzen Street’s south end.
The city emphasizes that burning leaves or brush within Elkhorn limits is prohibited.
