Maranatha Baptist University’s Music Department is inviting its alumni to join current students in performing Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living. The event will bring together MBU choirs, orchestra, and alumni at Cavalry Baptist Church in Watertown for a two-day gathering.
The piece, composed by Dan Forrest, consists of five movements for choir and full orchestra. It draws from traditional requiem elements and includes several Scriptural texts. According to Forrest, “a ‘grant US rest’, even more than a ‘grant THEM rest.’” The work addresses themes of pain and sorrow but also highlights hope for both the living and the dead.
Alumni interested in participating are required to purchase and rehearse the music before arriving. Attendance at all scheduled rehearsals as well as the concert is mandatory. Participation will be limited based on choir section needs and confirmed on a first-registered, first-confirmed basis. Registration information is available at https://forms.mbu.edu/437 or by emailing music@mbu.edu.
The concert will begin with a rehearsal on Thursday, October 23, followed by the performance on Friday evening, October 24, 2025.
