The Delavan-Darien School District has announced the details of its Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for this year. The program offers free, nutritious meals to children aged 18 and under.

Traditionally, free summer meals were only available during summer school sessions. However, this year introduces a new Rural Non-Congregate or Meals-to-Go Program, allowing children to take home meals even when summer school is not in session.

Each child will receive seven breakfasts and seven lunches per week. These meals will include both shelf-stable and perishable foods that require refrigeration or freezing. Meal distribution will occur weekly at Delavan-Darien High School on Thursdays from 12:30–1:00 PM or 4:30–6:00 PM, starting June 19 through July 24.

To participate in the Meals-to-Go program, families must sign up in advance by completing a Google form provided by the district. Required information includes the names of parents or guardians picking up the meals, contact details, and the names and ages of all children needing meals.

Verification of the number of children in each household is part of the program's process. While most verifications can be completed using existing records, additional information may be requested if necessary. At meal pickup, families will need to confirm their submitted details to ensure accurate distribution.

Participants will receive weekly emails with menus for upcoming weeks, including storage and preparation instructions. This information will also be accessible on the district's website. The aim is to provide well-balanced meals that meet children's nutritional needs.

Additional meal service options are available beginning June 16th at various locations:

- Delavan-Darien High School will serve breakfast from 7:45 AM – 8:15 AM and lunch from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM Monday through Thursday for summer school students and screened visitors.

- From June 19 – July 24, non-congregate breakfast and lunch for three days will be served on Thursdays from 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM or 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM to families who register in advance.

- Starting July 28 – August 25, seven days' worth of non-congregate breakfast and lunch will be distributed on Thursdays from 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM.

- Turtle Creek Elementary School will serve onsite meals on select Wednesdays between June and July.

Families are encouraged to utilize these meal opportunities to ensure access to nutritious food throughout the summer.
