The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) annually issues a District Report Card and School Report Card for every publicly funded district and school in the state. These report cards aim to provide an accurate depiction of student academic performance for each district and school to families and the community.
The report card includes an overall accountability score, ranging from 0 to 100. Based on this score, districts or schools receive one of five ratings: Fails to Meet Expectations, Meets Few Expectations, Meets Expectations, Exceeds Expectations, or Significantly Exceeds Expectations. They also receive a rating from one to five stars.
For scores between 83 and 100, a five-star rating is given, indicating significant exceeding of expectations. Scores from 70 to 82.9 receive four stars, while scores from 58 to 69.9 get three stars. A two-star rating is assigned for scores between 48 and 57.9, with scores below this receiving one star.
The current report card primarily reflects performance during the previous school year (2023-24), though multiple years of data are considered throughout the report card. DPI advises caution when interpreting these scores and ratings.
Report cards are based on four priority areas: Achievement (proficiency in English language arts and mathematics), Growth (year-to-year progress), Target Group Outcomes (outcomes for students with the lowest test scores), and On-Track to Graduation (predictors of successful K-12 education completion).
In Lake Geneva Joint #1 District:
Eastview Elementary School received a four-star rating with an overall score of 77.4, showing achievement significantly above the state average in both English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. The school's growth in mathematics is above the state average as well.
Star Center Elementary School also earned a four-star rating with a score of 78.3, performing significantly above the state average in ELA and mathematics achievement.
Central-Denison Elementary School achieved a five-star rating with an overall score of 84.2, improving from its previous year's score of 83.3.
Lake Geneva Middle School improved its overall score by 8.2 points from last year to reach a three-star rating with a total score of 67.1.
In Lake Geneva-Genoa City Union High School District:
Badger High School maintained a three-star rating with an overall score of 66.5; it showed achievement scores in English & Math above the state average along with strong participation in performance arts.
DPI emphasizes that these report cards represent only one source of information about schools' performances.
