A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Village of Williams Bay, Wisconsin, seeking information about new voter registrations that occurred on November 5, 2024. The request was made by us at Whitewater Times on November 7, 2024.
We requested a list of new voters who registered to vote on Election Day under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and asked for the data in an electronic format. As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is crucial for our work.
Our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public, holding public institutions accountable, and providing transparency. Given our responsibility in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a response from the Village of Williams Bay and will continue to keep our readers informed about this matter.
