A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Village of Bloomfield, Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request pertains to the list of new voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
The request was made by us at Whitewater Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of our journalistic duty, we aim to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public.
We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. In this regard, we have requested these records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., preferably in electronic format.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we also believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as per standard practices.
Our intent with this request is not just to inform ourselves but also the public about the number of new voters who registered on Election Day. This information could shed light on voter turnout and participation trends in the area.
