A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Waterloo, Wisconsin, regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs at Whitewater Times, we requested records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., specifically seeking a list of voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information as a media organization, we have also requested a fee waiver for this service.
The City of Waterloo has yet to respond to our request. We will continue our efforts in promoting transparency and accountability within local government and will provide updates as they become available.
