FOIA Request to Walworth County Regarding Access to Public Records on October 7, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Whitewater Times have sent a request for records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., to Walworth County.
The requested records include a list of FOIA logs that were sent to the county from January 1, 2024 till October 7, 2024. The fields we are specifically interested in include the requester's name and organization, the content of the request, the date of the request and its completion date, as well as the status of the FOIA.
We believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information as a media organization, we have also requested for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We will continue with our efforts in bringing light to important matters concerning local government affairs and ensure transparency is maintained at all levels.
