The Elkhorn Elks and Delavan-Darien Comets will commence the football season on Thursday, August 22, at 7 p.m. at the EAHS Football Stadium for the annual Hero Bowl.
The Hero Bowl honors individuals who have served or are currently serving in the military. Active military personnel and veterans presenting a Legion, VFW card, driver's license with a military stamp, or military ID can enter the game free of charge. The Elkhorn American Legion, Post 45, will present the colors for the national anthem.
"The Elkhorn football team is excited to start the 2024 season and can't wait to see a stadium full of fans of all ages," said a team representative. "Let's fill it up and support our area athletes and service members."
Limited edition Hero Bowl 2024 t-shirts will be launched into the crowd during the event. Attendees are encouraged to invite friends and neighbors to foster community spirit under the banner "1Herd."
Attendees are advised to arrive early to witness the Legacy Arch dedication at 6:45 p.m., which honors longtime coaches and educators Dean Wilson and Paul Yanke.
