Walworth County Districts: Elkhorn Area School District welcomed most students in 2022-23 school year

Elkhorn Area School District had the highest enrollment among Walworth County districts, welcoming 3,582 students during the 2022-23 academic year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.2% of them were boys, and 48.8% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 90.9% of the Elkhorn Area School District’s total enrollment.

Among the 15 districts in Walworth County, Whitewater Unified School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 1,986 students, while Lake Geneva J1 School District welcomed 1,824 students and ranked third in the 2022-23 school year.

Elkhorn Area School District roughly covers schools within Walworth County, with its main office in Elkhorn.

In the previous school year, Elkhorn Area School District also had the highest number of students among Walworth County districts.

Nearly 830,000 students were enrolled in Wisconsin schools in the 2021-22 school year. This is a 0.85% decrease from the year before. In sharp contrast to declining public school figures, enrollment in charter schools rose 4.5% to more than 52,000.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 14 students in a Wisconsin classroom, compared to the national average of 1:16. AAA State of Play considered Wisconsin to have the 14th best teacher to student ratio in the U.S.
