A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Walworth County on September 26, 2024, by us at Whitewater Times. The request pertains to the disclosure of vendor payments made by the county from January 1, 2024, through September 26, 2024.
As a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we requested this information under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. The specific details sought in the request include the vendor name, transaction date, transaction description, and amount for each payment made during the specified period.
We believe that access to such public records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
