Students from the Maranatha Baptist University Music Department presented a series of spring recitals, according to an April 6 announcement. The performances took place in the weeks leading up to Spring Break and featured solo and joint recitals by undergraduate musicians.
The university highlights these events as opportunities for students to demonstrate their musical growth. Recital participants included Abigail Boorujy, who performed both her junior piano and minor violin recital within the same week. Her programs featured works by Mozart, Bach, Prokofiev, and Liszt. Grace Hedrick played piano solos and accompanied other instrumentalists, including a duet with her husband Kenney and a performance with freshman Meg Morken.
Ryan Mayer and Daniel Earnest combined their junior recitals with Mayer on piano under June Brus’s guidance and Earnest performing voice pieces under Mrs. Carol Ruffin. Their selections included “Bright is the Ring of Worlds” by R. Vaughn Williams and “Nocturne no. 2 in C Minor” by John Field.
Amelia Schroeder and Jamie Martinez shared a recital featuring hymn arrangements such as “This is My Father’s World” by Lloyd Larson, “Come Thou Fount,” and Mozart’s Piano Sonata no. 4. Olivia Cansler concluded one of the final pre-break weeks with violin performances that included Haydn’s “The Bird” and Beethoven’s “Spring.”
Maranatha plans at least six more student recitals along with a spring concert this semester.
