Nathan Ledgerwood, a graduate of Maranatha Baptist University (MBU), has built a career in music education after completing his undergraduate studies in Music Performance at MBU. Following his graduation in 2003, Ledgerwood was awarded a scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Master of Music degree in Cello Performance. He studied under professors including Phyllis Young and Robert Duke, which he says greatly influenced his musical understanding.
Ledgerwood is currently the Director of Orchestras at Walsh Middle School in Round Rock, Texas. He is also active in the music ministry at Austin Baptist Church. According to Dr. David Ledgerwood, Nathan’s orchestras have “routinely scored at the highest level in both performance and sight-reading categories during the rigorous Texas competition.” Nathan describes his teaching approach as starting with small, homogeneous classes for beginning 6th-grade students based on instrument type and gradually adding more instruments as students advance. He attributes success to having hour-long classes five days a week, stating this is the “secret sauce of success.”
Reflecting on his time at MBU, Ledgerwood credits professors such as Dr. Budahl, Dr. Brown, Dr. Townsend, and Dr. Ledgerwood for their examples of excellence and dedication through daily teaching. He said he would not be where he is today without their guidance: “Your time will go quickly. Take the time to serve.”
