Lake Geneva Schools has announced that it is taking steps to help families facing challenges from rising food prices and a delay in Wisconsin’s FoodShare program funding caused by the government shutdown. The district is making families aware of available food support within schools and the wider community.
All students at Lake Geneva Schools are eligible for free breakfast during the current school year, with no application required. The district also encourages families who may qualify for additional assistance to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application. More information about this program and how to apply can be found on the Lake Geneva Food Service – Lunch Resources page.
In addition to school-based programs, the district is directing families to several local food pantries. These include First Congregational Church in Lake Geneva, Chapel on the Hill Parish Hall, Mt. Zion Church, The Bridge Food & Diaper Bank in Elkhorn, and Trinity Church in Genoa City. Each location has specific hours of operation throughout the week.
The district is also inviting community members who wish to help those experiencing food shortages to donate food or money to these local resources. “We can work together to support those in our schools and community,” according to the statement.
Families seeking more information about available resources are encouraged to contact school social workers: Tana Kubly at Badger High School, Rachel Stinespring at LGMS and Eastview Elementary, or Barb Hess at Central-Denison and Star Center Elementary.
